Tallahassee Museum

The Tallahassee Museum’s stated purpose is to educate the residents of and visitors to the Big Bend area of Florida about the region’s natural and cultural history, from the nineteenth century until the present. With 52 acres of natural wonders, historic buildings, high-flying zipline adventures and animal exhibits, this is no typical museum. The Museum is home to fourteen historic buildings that engage visitors in 19th-century experiences and allow them to discover the history and lifestyles of southern animals and communities.  The Museum also offers group programs, senior programs, camps and more! Tallahassee Automobile Museum

This museum is a MUST SEE!  The Tallahassee Automobile Museum is home to one of the largest collections of automobiles from antique cars to the latest sports car, even the Bat Mobile!  And, the collection doesn’t stop with cars! You will also find an extensive collection of knives, boats, boat motors, fishing lures, sports memorabilia, dolls, native American artifacts, American cash registers, brass fans, Steinway pianos, antique time pieces and a General Store exhibit! Goodwood Museum and Gardens

A visit to Tallahassee should include a visit to the Goodwood Museum & Gardens, a 1600 acre-cotton plantation which is on the National Register of Historic Places and serves today as a museum.  The north Florida majestic oaks, sprawling lawns, and a breezy front porch will take you back in time. Built in the 1830s, Goodwood still has 16 historic structures remaining on the grounds including the original Main House Museum. Many of these structures were remodeled in the 1910s, giving Goodwood its current turn-of-the-century appearance. Take a tour of the Main House which features one of the earliest fresco ceilings in Florida and a vast collection of original furniture, porcelains, textiles, glassware, art, and more. Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts

The Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts, or MoFA as it is known by patrons, has an extensive exhibition of over 6000 objects.  It presents historical and contemporary art works regarding the University’s campus, the city of Tallahassee and the state. The Riley House Museum

The John Gilmore Riley Center & Museum for African American History & Culture, Inc. is a historical museum that was the home to John, a former enslaved man.  After his emancipation, John Gilmore Riley rose to prominence as a civic leader and an educator. He was among few African Americans in Tallahassee to own property at the turn of the century.  Today, the Riley House serves as an important symbol of the African American leadership and is included on the Florida Black Heritage Trail.
